In the last article, we learned Japanese on the occasion of Greeting, Asking Direction and useful words at the restaurant. So in this article, learn how to shop at convenience store, shopping, and some additional useful phrases!    

 

AT CONVENIENCE STORE

Learn all the useful words during your purchase in a convenience store.

  • Ohashi- Chopstick 
  • Oshibori - Handwipes
  • Supun -  Spoon
  • Foku - Fork
  • O-yu wa arimasu ka - Do you have hot water?
    Use this phrase when you buy instant ramen
  • Atatamete kudasai - Can you make it warm?
    If you buy bento box or other food items that need to be warmed.

 

SHOPPING

Learn how to shop with these useful phrases

  • Ookii saizu wa arimasuka? - Do you have a bigger one?
  • Chiisai saizu wa arimasuka? - Do you have a smaller one?
  • Aka wa arimasuka? - Do you have red color?
  • Hokano iro wa arimasuka?- Do you have different colors?
  • Kite mite mo ii desu ka. - May I try it on?
  • Kaado wa tsukaemasuka? - Do you take credit cards?
  • Kaado de onegai shimasu - I want to pay with credit card, please.

     

Here are the other colors in Japanese:

  • Aka - red
  • Shiro - White
  • Midori - Green
  • Ao - Blue
  • Kiiro - Yellow
  • Chairo - Brown
  • Orenji - Orange
  • Pinku - Pink
  • Haiiro - Gray
  • Murasaki - Purple

*Tip: Some shops have tax free policy with minimum purchase. You can ask at the cashier before paying and make to bring your passport.

 

ADDITIONAL USEFUL PHRASES

  • Ikura desu ka? - How much is this?
  • Kore wa, nan desu ka? - What is this?
  • Kore Kudasai - This one, please
  • Tasukete kudasai - Means Please help me but this is only use when you are in trouble or in emergency cases
  • Onegaishimasu - Please 
  • Nihonggo wo sukoshi dake hanashimasu - I speak Japanese a little only
  • Nihonggo wa Wakarimasen - I dont understand Japanese
  • Eigo wa hanasemasu ka? - Can you speak English?
