Travel Tip of Singapore -How To Save Some Time and Money?-

F rom my trips in Singapore, I may say that being prepared will save so much time so you can maximize it in going to an international trip. Reading blogs and tips online is one way you can make it possible.

Currency in Singapore 

Going to Singapore in a trip is costly compared to other Asian countries. Therefore, it is better to prepare your budget before your trip. Credit cards are widely accepted in the country, but it's better to have cash when going around. If you want to exchange currency (and in order to save some SGD), I suggest not to do it at the airport upon arrival because there will be service charge and tax. You can go to money changers located in the town.

Make sure to call your bank before your trip and notify them that you'll go out of the country so you can use it there.

Yes, you can do withdrawals from your MasterCard/Visa card on your destination country to get SGD. Upon doing so, you'll be asked if you wish to use 'local currency' or 'your origin country's currency' better select the local currency so you can avoid extra charge for what they call dynamic pricing charge.

Stay Connected in Singapore

Nowadays, most public places offers free use of WiFi, however, it is necessary to stay connected to the internet when you step out of the airport or your hotel, when you are in an unfamiliar place. Internet packages in a form of Sim Card or a pocket WiFi can be purchased online for your scheduled trip and you can choose a pick up at the airport upon your arrival to your destination country.

NOTE: If you didn't do an advance purchase, you may also buy SimCard at the airport upon arrival or at any convenience store. They'll just ask you to show them your passport.

 

Transportation in Singapore

As Singapore is a small country, it can be explored through various mode of transportation. The most popular and cheapest way to explore the country is via (MRT)/LRT system. For me it is highly recommend. You may purchase store value pass or the Singapore Tourist Pass depends on your stay duration.

I can also advise using Grab App for some of your transportation needs. If you travel in group, they have a coaster which is good for maximum of nine guests.

Note: You must be on time when booking a grab ride as they charge penalty fee if you arrived more than five minutes late on your pick-up point. In the contrary, you will receive some grab points when your booking got cancelled by the driver.

Eat Like Singaporean Locals

Going to food courts or locally known as “Hawker Centres” is the best way to experience Singapore local food. At very affordable price, you may try different types of their food from noodles, seafood, rice dishes to name a few. Some hawker centres have great location which you enjoy great view and entertainment at the same time while you eat.

NOTE: Few of must try dishes will be Chili Crab and Singapore Laksa (spicy noodle soup).

Best Attractions in Singapore

Everyone’s goal when planning a trip is to visit the country’s well-known attractions and to be to as many as they can.  

There are many tourist attractions in Singapore that you can visit and I wish to highlight some famous attractions which I consider must-visit.

Let’s start with attractions that you can go to free! (Yes, for free!)

1. Merlion Park (one of the most photographed icon of Singapore which became the embodiment of the country)
2. SuperTree Grove in Gardens by the Bay (best time to visit the attraction will be in the afternoon until evening as there will be lightshow at night).
3. Sentosa Island (you can go around Sentosa for free, but attractions inside it like Universal Studios Singapore, Ocean Park and others has ticket fee)

Next are the attractions with entrance fees. I suggest you purchase the tickets in advance to get good discounts.

1. SkyPark Observation Deck at Marina Bay Sands (One of the best locations to enjoy Singapore’s skyline is from Infinity Pool which exclusive for hotel guests only. For non-guests, you can purchase ticket to Observation Deck located at 57th floor.)
2. Flower Dome and Cloud Forest (as the both destinations are next to each other, better to purchase it in bundle to have great discount)
3. Universal Studios Singapore (This will be enjoyed by kids and kids at heart, seeing your favourite movie characters and experiencing the fun will make your heart go wild with excitement.)

Souvenirs at Bugis Street

There are several places where to buy cheap souvenirs in Singapore – like ChinaTown and Lucky Plaza to name a few. However, we recommend Bugis Street because it’s the largest street-shopping in the country.

You can buy fashion stuff like Singapore T-shirts, hats, bags and accessories and common souvenir items like key chains, fridge magnets, picture frames and chocolates (Merlion-shaped chocolates).

Note: Bargaining is accepted at some stores to get better deals. (Especially when you buy plenty of items at the same store)
